During your admission, private hospitals would collect a deposit, around HK$4,000 to HK$100,000 based on your selected room types. Suppose you are a policyholder of a medical insurance plan accepted by the hospital. In that case, you can enjoy the ‘Cashless Hospitalization’ service in which you do not have to pay the deposit and other medical charges. Besides, the charging scheme and calculation of rooms vary among private hospitals. You can take a look at the below calculations taken from several private hospitals in Hong Kong.

    Private Hospitals Calculations
    Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital
    • A half-day charge is made for any stay shorter than 2 hours, and a full-day charge is made for any stay over 2 hours after admission.
    • 24 hours after the admission, a half-day charge is made for any stay shorter than 12 hours and a full-day charge for any stay over 12 hours
    St. Paul’s Hospital
    • A room charge is levied on a daily basis (except Day Cases) with a cut-off time at 12:00 midnight.
    • A room charge will not be made on the day of discharge if the patient leaves before 12:00 noon.
    • Irrespective of the length of stay, a one-day room charge would be levied.
Hong Kong Adventist Hospital – Tsuen Wan
    • Minimum charge: one day (even if the stay is less than 24 hours). The charge varies depending on the room type.
    • Subsequent days: Half-day charge (if a hospital stay is less than 12 hours), one-day charge (if a hospital stay is more than 12 hours).
    Hong Kong Baptist Hospital
    • One-day bed charge will be calculated on the first day of admission, regardless of the length of stay on that day.
    • Check-out time is 1:00 pm. One-day bed charge will be calculated after 1:00 pm.

Since the government rolled out a pilot program for price transparency among private hospitals in 2016, the charges of private hospitals’ services have become clearer despite the fact that their fees and terms can be adjusted at any time. Therefore, you are suggested contacting the respective hospitals for detailed pricing to avoid any over budget and miscalculations.
