How to boost immune system
Practitioners of traditional Chinese medicine believe that lung health is closely related to immunity. Ginseng root, burdock root and lily bulb are among the herbs recommended to boost the immune system and nourish the lungs.
Meanwhile, fruits and vegetables that are good for lung health include broccoli, cruciferous vegetables, apples and orange that is rich in antioxidants and vitamin C to help reduce inflammations.
Here are a few healthy recipes for kids that you can try out to help increase their immunity against cold and cough:
Burdock Root Soup
Ingredients
- 400g pork ribs
- 1 burdock root
- 1 medium-sized carrot
- 1 large fresh corn of the cob
- 4-5 honey dates
- 1.8 litre water
- Salt to taste
Steps
- Scald pork ribs in boiling water, drain and rinse under cold water and set aside.
- Rinse and slice the burdock root.
- Cut the carrot and corn into chunks.
- Put the water into a large pot and bring it to boil before adding all the ingredients. Simmer for two hours.
Pear Dessert Soup
Ingredients
- 2 Chinese white pear
- 1.5 tbsp rock sugar
- 1 tbsp Goji berries
- 6-8 honey dates
- 1.5 cups of water
Steps
- Remove the cores of the pears and slice them.
- Add the pears and all the other ingredients into a pot. Simmer for 20 minutes.
Lily Bulb Porridge
Ingredients
- 1/3 cup rice
- 1/3 cup yellow millet
- 1/4 cup crushed corn millet
- 1 small carrot, diced
- 1 small potato, diced
- 1 big fresh lily bulb
- 1 handful of walnuts
- A few slices of fish
Steps
- Wash and peel the fresh lily petals and soak them in water.
- Cook the rice with a suitable amount of water and add in all the ingredients. Let it cook until the vegetables are tender before adding the fish.
