    Winter Food For Thought

    winter-food-for-thought1

It all starts right around December. First comes the Winter Solstice dinner, then Christmas gatherings, New Year parties and everything in between. Mindless eating is common during all these celebration. But afterwards, we should pay extra attention to our diet in order to ward off winter illnesses. Here is what you need.

    1. Omega-3

Omega-3 fatty acids help improve mood during winter and are great in creating a healthier complexion. They can be found in salmon and nuts.1,2

    2. Vitamin D

A lack of sunlight in winter means a lack of vitamin D, which is important for general health as well as beating the winter blues. Vitamin D can be found in egg yolks, milk, and tuna.

    3. Vitamin C, Iron, Zinc

To boost immune system, pick foods that are rich in vitamin C, iron and zinc. For example, mushrooms, bell peppers, spinach, and red meats.2,3

Here is a simple and healthy recipe packed with the above nutrients — so delicious it will wow your family and friends.

    Stuffed Mushrooms with Tuna4

    Ingredients

    • 185g tin tuna
    • 2 tablespoon mayonnaise
    • 1/4 teaspoon dried minced onion
    • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
    • 1 1/2 teaspoon sweet pickle relish
    • 220g white mushrooms
    • Diced Swiss cheese
    • Salt & pepper

    Steps

    1. Preheat oven to 180°C.
    2. Place mushrooms aside. Mix all other ingredients and fill mushroom caps with mixture.
    3. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes.
    4. Ready to serve.

Post-celebration diet doesn’t have to be dreary. Take good care of yourself, and stay healthy and upbeat at the start of 2019!
