What Nails Say About Your Health

    what-nails-say-about-your-health

Nails are not just canvases for miniature artwork. They could be indicators of underlying medical conditions. Here are some easily-overlooked nail conditions that need our attention. Read on and you can be a nail health expert!

Gnawed nails are a result of constant nail-biting. It can be a passing phenomenon that occurs in childhood, but scientific studies have also found that people who bite nails often have anxiety problems at the same time.1 If you know anyone who has persistent nail-biting that seems or feels compulsive, you should start paying attention to their mental well-being besides trying out the below methods to stop nail-biting.1

    • Putting on a glove
    • For females, put on beautiful nail polish
    • Keep your hands or mouth busy. Find something to fiddle with, like a stress ball or even a pen to click.

A fingernail moon is also called a lunula. Not being able to see your lunulae doesn’t always mean that something is wrong with your health, but their development is indeed affected by nutrition, environment, and physical quality. When the digestion and absorption function is poor, the lunula reduces, even disappears.

Small lunula may indicate poor blood circulation. The less lunula you have, the slower circulation and weaker immunity you have. There is a high chance your feet and hands are always cold.2 The simplest solution is to have a balanced diet that provides a good source of vitamins and minerals.3

Your ideal fingernail moon color should be in ivory.2 If they appear grey, it may mean low energy and digestion problems. You should pay attention to the spleen, stomach, digestion and absorption. If they look purple, it may mean poor blood circulation of heart and cerebral vessels.

Click to watch this video to learn the tips of checking your nail health. Next time you cut your nails or think of what color nail polish to get, look at your nails closely and you will see what they are telling you.
