How to Correct Bad Habits and Improve Lifestyle

6 Mins read

You might not be a smoker or a drinker, but almost all of us have some bad habits that affect our health. Before you say to yourself I’ve been this way my whole life. It’s impossible to change now, read on. Breaking bad habits may not be as difficult as you think.

Eating too much fast food is bad not just because it gives you a fat bottom. It’s bad because it can lead to heart disease and diabetes, thanks to trans fat, which is often found in junk food.

Can’t quit cold turkey? You don’t have to! Give yourself time and cut back gradually. Buying a smaller portion or replacing soda with water is a good start. Switching to a sandwich shop, which is equally convenient, also helps.

Too much sitting on the couch watching TV means you’re spending more time being inactive. Result? Weight gain, bad mood and memory loss.

Reversing this habit is easy. Stick to the 2/30 rule: maximum two hours of TV and minimum 30 minutes of exercise daily. Turn on the TV only when you have something to watch. Don’t just channel-surf. Do some household chores during commercials - the calorie-burning adds up over time!

Overspending affects not just your financial health but the stress it entails can lead to high blood pressure, depression, and digestion issues.

Keeping track of your finances gives you a better idea as to what to cut back on.  Have a portion of your salary automatically transferred to a savings account. While making at least the minimum payment on all your bills, aim to pay off the credit card with the highest interest rate first.

Remember, it’s NEVER too late to get rid of a bad habit.
