    Healthy Desserts for Kids

    healthy-desserts-for-kids

Children’s Day calls for some quality time with the kids! Celebrity chef Mab Mak from MAB Kitchen introduces two quick desserts with healthy foods that guarantee health and smiles. She is passionate in designing simple recipes that children love. Try out her delicious and nutritious recipes together as special celebration!

    Recipe 1: Watermelon Pizza

    Ingredients

    • 150g of Cottage Cheese
    • 1 teaspoon of Honey
    • 1/4 teaspoon of Vanilla Extract
    • 1 Watermelon
    • Blackberries, Strawberries, and Blueberries (5pcs each)
    • Fresh Mint

    Steps

    1. Mix the cottage cheese, honey and vanilla extract together in a bowl.
    2. Cut the watermelon into the shape of pizza slices, and spread the cottage cheese mixture on top.
    3. Cut blackberries, strawberries, and blueberries in half, and place them on the watermelon.
    4. Garnish with fresh mint.

Vitamins K and C in blackberries benefit children’s bones. Vitamin K activates proteins needed to deposit new bone mineral tissue, while vitamin C boosts the synthesis of collagen, a protein abundant in bone tissue. Strawberries provide the fiber essential for healthy digestion. They are also a rich source of antioxidant, Vitamin C and folate which aids brain development. Packed with abundant nutrients like iron, calcium, magnesium, zinc, collagen, vitamin K, C and B6, blueberries boast many benefits that include enhancing heart health, bone strength, skin health, blood pressure, diabetes management, cancer prevention, and mental health.

Recipe 2: Peanut Butter Banana Ice Cream

    Ingredients

    • 3 bananas
    • 2 tablespoons of peanut butter
    • ¼ cup of milk
    • Crushed peanuts

    Steps

    1. Slice the bananas thinly and freeze for two hours or more, preferably overnight.
    2. Take the banana out of the freezer, blend with 2 tablespoons of peanut butter. Add milk to blend smoothly.
    3. Top with crushed peanuts to serve

Potassium in peanut butter helps children eliminate excess sodium in their bodies, commonly caused by their love for heavily seasoned foods. Unsalted varieties are even more heart-healthy. Rich in potassium and fiber among many other nutrients, bananas help prevent asthma, cancer, high blood pressure, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and digestive problems.

Incorporating healthy foods into your kids’ diet has never been this easy. You can ensure they consume enough essential minerals and nutrients while they will surely love the colors and the fresh taste of the desserts!
