    Debunking Vegetarianism Myths

    debunking-vegetarianism-myths

Vegetarianism has been all the rage in recent years. Confusion surrounding this lifestyle choice, however, is still abound. Many are convinced that a vegetarian diet is insufficient in providing nutrients, in particular protein and iron. At the same time, some assume a meat-free diet means a healthier diet, while others believe a vegetarian diet is not safe during pregnancy.

As with all things in life, the ultimate key to vegetarianism is balance.

    • A well-balanced vegetarian diet can provide all the nutrients one needs, including protein and iron. Good sources of protein in a meat-free diet include beans, lentils, and nuts; whereas iron-rich foods include leafy green vegetables, pulses, and wholemeal bread.
    • Vegetarianism does not have a monopoly on good health. If a vegetarian diet lacks a good balance of food types, it is no more healthier than an omnivore diet.
    • With possibly some minor changes, a well-balanced vegetarian diet is perfectly healthy for mothers-to-be as well, provided that they seek professional medical advice just like any other pregnant women should during pregnancy.

With these doubts dispelled, we’d like to share with you a recipe for Pumpkin Cranberry Granola Bites. Filled with natural deliciousness, these granola bites are the perfect choice of snack when you need a little pick-me-up at work!

A tip for vegetarians who are keen on muscle-building without compromising your diet choice — more protein, calories, nuts and seeds, cooked beans and possibly some supplements are the way to go!
