Cigna VHIS Series Flexi Plan (Superior) is the first Voluntary Health Insurance Scheme (VHIS) flexi plan in Hong Kong with five deductible options. Cigna will start paying for the covered medical expenses once the deductible amount has been paid. The deductible will be covered either by the policyholder or his or her other insurance plan(s).
A deductible is not mandatory on any health insurance plan in Hong Kong.1 However, having a deductible often means significantly lower premiums with comprehensive coverage in times of medical catastrophe.2
If you have a group medical plan, you can cover your deductible with its coverage. Therefore, you can have your medical bills covered in full without any out-of-pocket expenses. Watch a video explanation of how you can do it.
Take Sarah’s story as an example. Sarah has a group medical plan and has taken out Cigna VHIS series Flexi Plan (Superior) with HKD 25,000 deductible. She was in a car accident last month with broken legs. According to her VHIS plan, she needs to pay HKD 25,000 out of her own pocket first. But her group medical plan fully covers the amount while her Flexi Plan (Superior) fully compensate the rest of the expenses associated with her surgery and hospitalization. With protection from Cigna and her group medical plan, Sarah enjoys all-round medical care with a minimal monthly contribution.
