How was the name CIGNA formed?
The name was formed in 1982 through the combination of INA Corporation and Connecticut General Corporation. Our name mixes the letters INA and CG together.

How long has CIGNA been in Hong Kong?
A precedessor of CIGNA companies was the first American Company to write insurance in China by entering Shanghai early in 1897 through INA. We entered the Hong Kong market in 1933. We established direct market through partnerships in 1979 and began our Healthcare & Group benefits and Individual Life operations in 1983 and 1987 respectively. What kinds of products are offered by CIGNA Hong Kong?
CIGNA Hong Kong offers life, accident and health insurance products for both individuals and groups. We were one of the first insurers to launch an investment-linked product, named the Gold Medal Plan. About Your Policy

What are the general exclusions under my policy?
The general exclusions are all stated on the policy provision, or you may refer to the below:

  • any congenital anomalies, infertility or sterilization;
  • cosmetic surgery;
  • pregnancy, childbirth, miscarriage, abortion or complications arising from any of them even though such loss may have been accelerated or induced by the Bodily Injury or Sickness;
  • any illegal act of the Person Insured in the country where the Bodily Injury or Sickness occurs;
  • being in a state of insanity or psychiatric or psychological disturbance;
  • being under the influence of alcohol or drug unless the drug is properly prescribed and was not taken for the treatment of drug addiction;
  • driving any kind of vehicle while the alcohol level in Person Insured's breath, blood or urine is higher than the legal limit in the country where the Bodily Injury or Sickness occurs;
  • service in any armed force while: i) in the time of War; ii) under orders for warlike operations; or iii) restoration of public order. For the avoidance of doubt, armed force shall include any police force of a country;
  • War or any act of War, invasion, act of foreign enemy, hostilities (whether war be declared or not), Strike, Riot and/or Civil Commotion, civil war, rebellion, revolution, insurrection, military or usurped power or Terrorism;
  • Terrorism involving the use, release or escape of nuclear materials that directly or indirectly results in nuclear reaction or radiation or radioactive contamination; or the dispersal or application of pathogenic or poisonous biological or chemical materials; or the release of pathogenic or poisonous biological or chemical materials;
  • taking part in any air sport, air travel or any other kind of aviation activities, other than travelling as a fare-paying passenger on regular scheduled commercial aircraft which is provided and operated by an airline or air charter company which is properly licensed to do so;
  • suicide, attempted suicide, suicide pact or deliberate self-inflicted injury, while sane or insane;
  • dental care and treatment, except as necessitated by Accidental injury to sound natural teeth;
  • Pre-existing Condition;
  • Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS), AIDS Related Complex (ARC) or other forms of the virus;
  • rest cures, treatment in sanatoria or functional disorders of the mind;
  • any condition which is or results from or is complication infection with a venereal disease;
  • tonsils, adenoids, hyperthyroidism, hernia, disease peculiar to the female generative organs or haemorrhoids until the Person Insured has been covered under this Policy for a period of six (6) calendar months immediately preceding such surgery (applicable for Surgical Expenses benefit only); or
  • the Person Insured participating in or conducting training for any of the following activities:
    • underwater swimming or diving and use any type of equipment to aid breathing;
    • any kind of climbing, or mountaineering using rope or guides;
    • pot-holing;
    • parachuting, any kind of gliding, ballooning, bungi-jumping or micro-lighting;
    • any type of explosions (including but not limited to firework or firecracker);
    • winter-sports;
    • hunting;
    • driving or riding in any kind of race; or
    • professional sports.
  • Confinement in an establishment which is not a Hospital as defined;
  • Confinement for routine physical or any other examination where there is no objective indications or impairment in normal health; or
  • any Sickness that the Person Insured contracts or suffers during the Elimination Period.

How can I pay my premium?
For policy number with prefix "HL", "HK" or "HG", you can pay by autopay, cheque, direct bank deposit or PPS (Payment by Phone Service). Our PPS merchant code is 9139. Please call our customer service hotline at 2892 2166 for more information.

For policy number with other prefix, please call our customer service hotline at 2560 1990 to know more about your payment method.

The policy will be ended automatically.

How to change my auto pay bank account or my credit card number?
For policy number with prefix "CT", "CTM", "CC", "HMK" or "HMKHK", you can download the Change Request Form at Customer Care>Form in our website. Please complete the Change Request Form and return to our office by fax or mail. You may contact our Customer Service Hotline at 2560 1990 for more information.

What's the difference between hospital income protection and hospitalization expenses reimbursement?
Hospital Income Protection provides coverage when you are hospitalized, usually in a fixed regular amount, regardless of the actual amount of hospitalized expenses incurred. Hospitalization expenses reimbursement provides the reimbursement of exact medical expenses incurred due to the incident. Maximum coverage amount applies to both types of coverage, please refer to your policy for details.

All claim notice should be submitted within 30 calendar days counted from incident date.

What kind of forms should I fill in when I submit my claim notice?
Under normal circumstances, claimant should submit appropriate claim form with part 1 & part 2 completed (you may click here to download), together with medical report or discharge summary/slip.

Can I submit my claim via fax or email?
Yes, you can submit your claim via fax line 2886 3722 or email to enquiryhk@cigna.com but the claim must be related to hospital income protection only. For other types of claims, please call 2560 1990 for appropriate claim procedure.

Can I request for re-issue of claim cheque due to cheque loss, cheque expired or wrong payee?
Yes, please submit written request for any cheque re-issuance.

My medical expense has been reimbursed by other insurer, would there be any influence on my benefit claim to your company?
Yes, but it only affects your benefit claim amount of medical expense. We will need the breakdown of the reimbursement of other insurer against your original receipts incurred from the incident in order to calculate the remaining balance amount to be covered by us.
