Our History

From our roots in the U.S. cities of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Hartford, Connecticut, CIGNA has grown and diversified. Today, the CIGNA companies maintain networks of sales and service offices in major markets around the globe, maintaining a staff of some 28,000 worldwide. CIGNA subsidiaries offer programs to approximately 47 million people around the globe. For year-end 2008, CIGNA Corporation had consolidated shareholders' equity of approximately U.S. $3.6 billion and revenues from continuing operations of U.S. $19.1 billion. CIGNA and its subsidiaries constitute one of the largest investor-owned health service organizations in the United States.
